
Open Studio program
We’re excited to share updates to our Open Studio Program at Cariku Art Lab, designed to help everyone work comfortably, safely, and with clear expectations as our community continues to grow.
Please take a moment to review the details below. These updates will be effective March 1, 2026.
Open Studio: Daily Membership Option
Daily Rate: $15 per day, per time slot
Available Time Slots:
• 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
• 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Who Can Participate
• All members must be 18 years or older (no exceptions).
• Members must have completed at least one in-person multi-week course at Cariku Art Lab, or have prior experience approved by the Studio Manager.
• All members are responsible for reading and following Cariku Studio policies.
Open Studio Hours
• Open Studio sessions are available Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
• All Open Studio slots must be booked a minimum of 24 hours before the session begins.
Please note: Classes, workshops, and courses may take place during Open Studio hours. Members must remain silent while classes are in session. The Studio reserves the right to revoke Open Studio privileges if this requirement is not respected.
Tools & Materials
• Students are expected to bring their own clay tools, apron and towel.
• A limited number of shared tools may be available, but personal tools are strongly recommended.
• Basic tool kits are available for purchase at the studio ($15 per tool set)
• Personal clay, glazes, and tools must be taken home at the end of each session.
What’s Included
• Use of studio equipment
• Dipping glazes
• Each time slot includes firing for up to five pieces per week at no additional cost. Additional pieces may be subject to a firing fee.
• Clay is NOT included for Open Studio, but you can buy it at the studio. We offer Kentucky mudworks clay.
• Work made outside the studio is NOT included.
• Unused sessions do not roll over to the next month.
Shelving & Storage Policies
Greenware (Work-in-Progress)
• Storage allowed for up to 1 month
• A post-it with name and date must be attached
• Shelving is communal and cleared monthly
• Dried-out or forgotten greenware will be discarded at the beginning of each month.
Bisqueware
• Storage allowed for up to 2 months from unloading
• Shelving is communal and cleared monthly
• Bisqueware older than 2 months will be glazed and donated via the Cariku Art Box (no exceptions)
Finished (Glaze-Fired) Work
• Storage allowed for up to 2 months
• Forgotten work will be donated after that time
Cancellation or Adjustments

Please provide at least two weeks’ notice for any 4-week class cancellation or changes.

You may reschedule your Open Studio session up to one hour before it begins. Missed sessions are non-refundable.

Any remaining greenware or glazed pieces that still need firing may be placed on the appropriate cart and will be fired for pickup two weeks later.
Important Note for Current Students

The Studio reserves the right to edit or update these policies at any time.
